Kentlands Juror

Our Juror for OAA’s 2019 Annual Show at Kentlands Mansion is Molly Nuzzo. Molly Marie Nuzzo is a painter based in Baltimore, Maryland. Her award winning work has been exhibited and collected locally and internationally. She earned an MFA in painting from Eastern Michigan University, and currently serves as Associate Professor of Art at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD.

Show Details

Jury Day  Bring your artwork entries for jurying to the Community Room/Buffington Bldg. in Olney on Monday. September 9, 3-3:30 p.m. Pick up all art after jurying the same day, 5:30-6 p.m.. You may bring up to 3 framed entries for jurying, with a $15 entry fee . Registration forms and releases are also due at this time. 50 pieces of art will be juried into the show.

Presentation/Framing Remember that in addition to technique and originality, our juror will be looking at your finished presentation. Although framing is influenced by personal preference, there are some general guidelines for framing art to be presented in a show: cleanliness (clean mats & glass), mats should be neutral, i.e., white, off-white, cream. Frames should not overpower the art and be in good condition with securely attached hanging wire.

Label Your Artwork Each piece must be identified on the back with your name, title of art, medium, your address, phone number and email.

Hanging On September 10, bring art juried into the show to Kentlands Mansion. Bin Work Details will follow in August Newsletter.

Committee Duties

Jury Committee: Prepare and send out the juror’s contract, confirmation letter of acceptance, and provide juror with pertinent info regarding show guidelines/schedule. Ensure that the juror’s statement is received. On jury day, prepare the room for art submittal, registration, labeling, and arranging art for juror’s review/awards. Check artwork as received to assure proper labeling/framing. Assure that artist forms and entry fees are complete. Record artwork data for use in program.

Hanging/Take Down Committee: Ensure all documents required for show have been submitted and are complete. Hang the art with title cards. Check bin work. Assure all artists sign out their work at take down. Art will be removed on Tuesday, November 12, 10:30-11 a.m. Assure that all paintings have been picked up.

Refreshment Committee: Manage sign-up list of volunteers. Ensure that all refreshment needs are arranged and sufficient for the reception. Monitor tables and refill platters. Clean-up after the reception.

Program Committee: Prepare the show program for distribution.

Awards Committee: Prepare and place in labeled envelopes the certificates and award checks for recipients. Order award ribbons.

Publicity Committee: Prepare press release with image and send to publishing agents/contacts to comply with their schedules Create/distribute show postcards and flyers using image of prior year’s “Best in Show.”.

Dear Fellow Artists,
Kentlands Mansion Wants Your Best Artwork of 2019. Due to the creative and outstanding, original OAA artwork of 2018, OAA has been invited back to the Kentlands Mansion to display some beautiful, new artwork. They want 50 pieces of our best recent works. The theme is up to you. Show us what you’ve been working on and what are your best. It can be landscapes, seascapes, maritime, florals, portraits, conceptual, imaginative, abstract. Please remember that artwork must be according to OAA standards, framed and wired ready to hang, with your information (your name, title of artwork), on the back. Show us what you’ve got!

2019 Sandy Spring Museum Show

  • OAA members may submit two (2) pieces of original artwork. No reproductions, prints or wet canvas will be allowed.
  • Entry fee is $10 for up to two pieces. Registration and installation will be on July 30, 10:30 – 11:30 am.  The application form can be found on the last page of the OAA June 2019 newsletter.  
  • Reception will be on August 8 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
  • Take-down and pick-up will be on September 3, 11:00 – 12:00 noon.
  • All entries must be professionally prepared for display, i.e., watercolors must be matted and framed; oils, acrylics and pastels must be framed; paintings on wrapped canvas must be finished on all sides; photographs must be framed. All pieces must have hanging wires.
  • Size limitations are minimum of 11” x 14” framed, maximum of 50” wide x 70” high, framed. Plexiglas (not glass) is required on all pieces larger than 22” x 28” framed size. 
  • All entries must be properly labeled on the back with the artist’s name, title of artwork; medium, price and contact information (telephone or email).
  • All entries must be for sale. Sandy Spring Museum (SSM) will handle the sale. 30% of the sales price will go to SSM as commission, with 70% to be retained for the artist. Checks for artwork sold will be mailed to the artist(s) at the end of the month during which the piece was sold, no later than the end of October 2019.  SSM encourages buyers to take possession of the purchased art AFTER the show ends. However, if a buyer needs to take the artwork with him/her, SSM will let it go. No other piece will fill that space.
  • Participating OAA members are required to contribute to the reception and in other activities pertaining to the exhibit, as needed.

Eighth Annual Ranazul Show ~ 2019

Our Eighth Annual show at La Galeria in Ranazul Restaurant (Fulton/Maple Lawn), will open on Sunday, March 31st with a reception on Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 4 to 5 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to meet the artists as you view their work and enjoy complimentary tapas and beverages. This exhibit includes fine, original artwork done by our members and will remain on display through April 27th. Artist and Makers Juried Show, 2018

David Terrar "A Time for Gold"

On August 1, 2018, OAA will open an exciting juried art show at Artists & Makers Studio 1, 11810 Parklawn Drive, Rockville.  Sixty original art works in many different mediums, will be on display.  The artists' reception will be held on Friday evening, August 3, 6:00 - 9:00 pm which is also the First Friday of August.  Refreshments will be served.  Come join us and meet the artists.

The exhibit will remain on the walls  from August 1 through August 29.  Entry is FREE.  If you can't come to the reception, please stop by the studios during regular hours, Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 - 4:00.  Open studios on the first Friday of each month have expanded hours.

This exhibit will be a great opportunity to showcase the work of all OAA members.in A&M galleries.

Judith Heartsong, Gallery Director, will serve as juror for all entries and for awards. She is giving out seven awards for bodies of work and an additional special Artists and Makers award.
